The workshop aimed to strengthen cooperation between competent authorities and businesses, providing practical information on critical issues of compliance, registration, labelling and control of chemicals and mixtures.

Highlights of the workshop

The presentations covered:

• The obligations of businesses under REACH (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restrictions).
• Correct classification and labelling in accordance with CLP.
• The need for continuous training and technical guidance, especially for SMEs.
• The role of the GCSL as National Competent Authority (NCA) and the importance of institutional support.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Federation of Greek Industries, professional associations, industry executives and scientists from the General State Laboratory, underlining the common need for foreseeing, preventing and adapting to the requirements of European legislation.

On 21 January 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) incorporated five new chemical substances in the List of Candidates for Inclusion in Annex XIV of REACH. These substances are often found in industrial and consumer products such as printing inks, adhesives and cleaners.

The additions include, among others:

• 6-[(C₁₀–C₁₃)-alkyl-(branched, unsaturated)-2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl]hexanoic acid - known for its toxicity to the reproductive system. It is used in lubricants, greases and metalworking fluids.
• O,O,O-triphenyl phosphorothioate - a substance with persistent and bioaccumulative behaviour, classified as PBT. It is found in lubricants and industrial greases.
• Octamethyltrisiloxane - volatile silicone with vPvB properties, widely used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and cleaning products.
• Perfluamine (Trifluoro(trifluoromethyl)amine) - a highly persistent and bioaccumulative substance, a member of the PFAS family, mainly used in industrial applications of electronic and optical components.
• Reaction mass of triphenylthiophosphate and tertiary butylated phenyl derivatives - mixture without active use registrations, with PBT characteristics that raise environmental concerns.
